What a Real One session actually looks like

A short conversation about a specific decision. What students ask, and what you are not expected to be.

Beyond Brochure Team · Updated August 2026

A Real One session is a short, focused conversation with a student who has a specific decision to make — usually about a college, a course, or a career path you have actually been through. You set your own rate and your own hours, you are not asked to sell any college, and there is no minimum commitment. Most people are asking what something is really like, not asking to be coached.

What students actually ask

"Is the placement report real?"

What the numbers looked like from inside your batch, not what the brochure printed.

"What is the course actually like?"

Teaching quality, workload, whether the specialisation is genuinely strong.

"Would you choose it again?"

The question students most want answered and least often get honestly.

"What does this job involve?"

An ordinary working day, rather than what the field looks like at its best.

What it is not

You are not expected to be a career counsellor. You are not writing anyone's application, guaranteeing an outcome, or advising on a field you have not worked in. You are also never asked to recommend a particular college — no institution pays Beyond Brochure, so there is nothing you would be steering anyone toward.

If a student asks something outside your experience, saying so is the right answer. That honesty is the entire product.

Preparing for a session takes almost nothing

You are not preparing material. The student brings the question; you bring what you lived. Skimming what they asked beforehand is usually the whole preparation. People who over-prepare tend to lecture, which is the one thing students can already get elsewhere.

Why short conversations work

A student weighing a decision worth several years and several lakhs is usually stuck on two or three specific unknowns — not on a lack of general information. Thirty focused minutes with someone who has been there resolves more than hours of reading, because the useful details are exactly the ones nobody publishes.

More on why the source matters is in verified alumni reviews vs paid reviews, and the fee structure in full is in what a Real One actually earns.
