MBA college brochure vs reality

A brochure is a marketing document, not a balanced picture. Here's how to read one for what it actually is.

An MBA brochure is produced by the college's own admissions team to maximize applications — every photo, quote, and statistic is selected to present the strongest possible case, not a representative one. That's not necessarily dishonest, but it means reading it uncritically means only seeing what the college wants shown.

What the brochure shows

  • Highest package, framed as "up to ₹X LPA"
  • Curated student testimonials
  • Best-angle campus photography
  • Notable recruiter logos, regardless of hiring volume

What it usually leaves out

  • Median package, not just the ceiling
  • Attrition and faculty turnover rates
  • Actual infrastructure condition, unfiltered
  • How many students that recruiter logo actually hired

"Up to" is doing a lot of work

A package framed as "up to ₹X LPA" describes the ceiling, not the typical outcome — see how to verify placement claims for the specific numbers worth asking for instead.

Testimonials are selected, not sampled

A brochure quote is chosen by the college from students willing to say something positive on the record — it tells you the best case exists, not that it's typical. A conversation with an alumnus you found independently, not one the college introduced you to, gives a materially different picture.
